This week marks the first time a Latin American President enters into the blogosphere: Rafael Correa. In a short video he invites Ecuadorians to actively participate in the Constitutional Assembly through the Internet's social networks. “It is time we brought our minds and our abilities together; let’s use all of the technologies that the Internet provides to come together, discuss and achieve the goals that all of the people of Ecuador have placed within this historic moment".
Correa is getting ready for the Constitutional Convention Delegate elections at the end of the month, which is his battle.
On another note, the model used by CNN and YouTube for the first U.S. Presidential Candidate debate was copied in our neighboring province of Salta.
At the end of July, YouTube and CNN merged their formats for the program: the debate was televised by CNN and the questions asked by people on YouTube were put on the air.
Yesterday, along those same lines, DebateTube was launched. You can upload videos with questions for the candidates of the provincial and national elections.
The website www.eldial.com (specializing in legal subject matter) launched a contest calling for papers on high-technology law so as to promote research and discussion on issues relating to law and new technologies. The areas are: electronic trade, copyrights, IT crimes, telecommunications and biotechnology, among others.
