Yesterday was a historic day for the people of Tucuman: it was the first time a governor was reelected; but more importantly it is the first time a politician receives this level of support in these parts, at 78 percent.
Tucuman was also one of the first provinces to become industrialized, it has an urban nucleus (greater San Miguel de Tucuman) that is home to over 50% of its population, and four national universities.
In a voting population along those lines it is very difficult to reach a extreme consensus.
A lot could be said about Jose Alperovich’s electoral success.
Without a doubt the Governor was able to consolidate political leadership thanks to the actions of his government. His administration was focused on improving the health system (which is currently on the forefront of medicine in the Argentine Northwest), education (100 new schools were built, among other things), housing improvements, which brought drinking water to 250,000 people (currently the majority of homes have drinking water) as well as 25,000 housing improvements, among other things.
The most important thing, however, was that Alperovich communicated directly with the people and followed their lead.
Historic electoral triumph
