A few days ago my friend, David de Ugarte, finished the final version of “El Poder de las Redes” (The Power of Networks). This book summarizes the ideas that he started coining when we met him in Galapagar, in May, 2005. At that time David’s stories seemed amazing: Eastern European revolutions were happening thanks to network organizations that were using new technologies to fight the dictators. Text messages, blogs, websites and rock and roll (it couldn’t be any other way) were organizing these revolutionary feats that ended with the people shouting “You’re finished” to Milosevic.
These cibercrowds, the news shapes of collective and political organization, communication and power, were all part of David’s analysis of modern society.
Taking advantage of the long weekend, I have reread the book, which will be in bookstores soon. It is written by one of the most brilliant minds of our time who is one of the irreplaceable guides we have for understanding the changes in the world to come.
The philosopher of our time
